Indications

Zovirax ointment is an antiviral medication used to treat genital herpes infection and cold sores caused by herpes simplex virus (HSV) infection.

Acyclovir is an antiviral drug that inhibits DNA replication of herpes viral cells to slow the growth and spread of the viral infection. Thanks to this inhibitory action, Zovirax ointment can treat symptoms of lesions caused by genital herpes or HSV infections.

Do not change your dose on your own or use the ointment for a different length of time than prescribed.

  • Wash your hands thoroughly before and after application
  • Wear a finger cot or rubber glove when applying to avoid infecting other areas
  • Clean and dry affected skin areas before application
  • Apply a thin layer over all lesions, making sure they are entirely covered

  • Apply Zovirax ointment daily for 7 days to treat lesions from genital herpes
  • Tell your healthcare provider if your symptoms do not improve after 7 days of treatment
