Lidoderm Patch USES

Lidoderm Patch (Lidocaine Topical) is a prescription drug that serves as a numbing medication or local anesthetic during medical and dental procedures. It also helps treat nerve or neuropathic pain, and irritation from certain skin conditions, and acts as temporary pain relief after shingles.

This transdermal patch belongs to a class of drugs called Topical Anesthetics or Amides Local Anesthetics. It works by blocking the nerves from conducting pain signals to or from the brain. It only works in the area under which the Lidocaine patch is applied, as it is a local anesthetic.

LIDODERM PATCH PRECAUTIONS

Before applying Lidoderm Patch, contact a healthcare professional if you are allergic to it, or have any other allergies. Inform your healthcare provider further if you have a family history or medical condition of:

  • Liver Disease
  • Broken, Swollen, or Damaged Skin
  • Methemoglobinemia (abnormal amount of methemoglobin)

Avoid contact or exposure to heat such as heating pads, saunas, hot tubs, or sunlight when you are wearing the transdermal patch. Exposure to heat may increase the drug released in your body and lead to a higher risk of serious side effects.

Before undergoing a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) test, inform your healthcare provider that you are wearing the transdermal patch. Some Lidocaine patches may contain metal and lead to serious burns when not removed during the process of MRI. Ask your healthcare provider about the proper method of removing the patch.

Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant before taking this medication or if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed.
