Menopur (Generic name: Menotropins for Injection, USP) is the most popular infertility medication used to treat certain infertility problems and help women become pregnant. Menotropins is also a hormone treatment that works by stimulating ovaries to produce eggs for women and sperm production for men. Each Menopur vial contains 75 International Units (IU) human follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and 75 IU human luteinising hormone (LH) activity. Menopur is administered by subcutaneous (SC) injection usually given in combination with human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG, e.g., Choragon). Use Menopur injection exactly as prescribed.
The most common Menopur side effects are abdominal cramp, breast tenderness, diarrhea, dizziness, flushing, headache, nausea, sweating, and vomiting. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as chest pain fever, jaundice, mood changes, urination pain, vision changes, and signs of allergic reaction (e.g., difficult breathing; hives; rash; swelling), please inform your doctor immediately.
Do NOT use Menopur injection if you are allergic to Menotropins or any of the ingredients in Menopur medication. Menopur fertility should NOT be applied on pregnant women or who have primary ovarian failure, blood clots, cancer or tumour, lung or kidney or liver problems, ovarian cysts or enlargement, thyroid problem, and vaginal bleeding. The Menopur treatment may increase the changes of multiple births. Tell your doctor about all the prescriptions and over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use. They may interact with Menopur drug.
