Famvir Information
Famvir (Famciclovir) is a guanosine analogue antiviral drug. In the form of medication, Famvir is used to treat outbreaks caused by herpes viruses. It can also treat oral herpes, genital herpes and shingles. Famvir slows the growth and spread of the herpes viruses which will result in the body fighting off the infection. It will not cure herpes but it will lessen the symptoms of the infection. Famvir is only meant for people with strong immune systems, also people who are infected with HIV. This drug should not be used to treat your first episode of genital herpes, herpes zoster infection of the eye, and herpes in people with weakened immune systems not caused by HIV. Headaches, nausea and diarrhea may occur from taking Famvir. If any of these effects occur tell your doctor promptly. Serious side effects are mental/mood changes, dizziness, drowsiness, signs of kidney problems (such as change in the amount of urine), yellowing eyes/skin, easy bruising or bleeding. A serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare to happen. However, tell your doctor right away if you have any of these serious side effects. Before using this product tell your doctor about your medical history, especially kidney problems. This medication may contain lactose. If you have conditions such as galactose intolerance, severe lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption that require you to restrict your intake of lactose, consult your doctor before taking this medication.
