Ganfort Eye Drops (Timolol Maleate/Bimatoprost)

Ganfort Eye Drops (Timolol Maleate and Bimatoprost) is used to treat high pressure inside the eye as a result of an eye disease called open angle glaucoma. It can also be used to treat other types of eye diseases like ocular hypertension. Treating high pressure inside the eye helps prevent blindness. Timolol belongs to the class of drugs called beta-blockers and it works by reducing the production of fluid within the eye. Bimatoprost belongs to the class of drugs called prostaglandin analogs and it works by lowering pressure in the eye by increasing the flow of natural fluids out of the eye. Before using these eye drops, wash your hands first. To avoid contamination, do not touch the dropper tip or let it touch your eye or any other surface. If you are wearing contact lenses, remove them before using these eye drops, and wait at least 15 minutes before you put them back on.

Common side effects of Ganfort Eye drops may include temporary blurred vision, burning or stinging, itching or redness of the eye; watery eyes; dry eyes; feeling as if something is in the eye and headaches.

Call your doctor or pharmacist immediately if you notice any serious side effects such as:
• An allergic reaction;
• Dizziness, confusion, fainting;
• Eye pain, swelling, discharge;
• Muscle weakness, mental/mood changes, coldness/numbness/pain in the feet;
• Sudden weight gain;
• Trouble breathing, slow or irregular heartbeat, chest pain, weakness on one side of the body, trouble speaking

Before taking this medication, inform your doctor or pharmacist regarding any existing allergies to medication such as preservatives like benzalkonium chloride, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist about any history of the following medical conditions: lung disease, asthma, severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, irregular heartbeats, heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease, and diabetes, low blood flow to the brain, overactive thyroid disease, muscle weakness disorders, and severe allergies. If you have diabetes, this medication may prevent the fast heartbeat that you would usually feel when your blood sugar level falls too low. This drug may cause blurred vision, do not drive or engage in any activities that require you to be alert. Tell your doctor about all the medications you use including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Ganfort eye drops and other medications. Contact your doctor if you are pregnant or breast feeding.
