Product Details

Zantac is available as prescription as well as over the counter (OTC) medication. It is indicated for the healing of ulcers in the stomach or duodenum. It is also used to prevent stomach ulcers caused by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, often used to treat arthritis. Some of the other indications of Zantac are prevention of ulcers from bleeding, healing or stopping problems caused by acid in the food pipe or too much acid in the stomach (heartburn or indigestion). It is also used to stop acid coming up from the stomach while under anesthetic during an operation. Zantac belongs to a group of medications called H2-receptor blockers. It works by reducing the amount of acid in yours stomach. Zantac comes as oral solution in the dosage form of 15 mg/ml/300 ml, as injection in the dosage form of 25 mg/ml, as Zantac and Zantac ES tablets in the dosage forms of 150 mg.

Less serious Zantac side effects may include: allergic reactions, skin rash, inflammation of blood vessels (vasculitis), inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis), inflammation of the liver (hepatitis), inflammation in the kidney, slow, fast or irregular heartbeat, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, feeling confused, depressed, or excited, or seeing or hearing things that are not really there (hallucinations), trouble sleeping, feeling sleepy, joint or muscle pain, malaise, uncontrolled movement, headache, dizziness, blurred vision, unusual hair loss or thinning, unable to get or maintain an erection (impotence), unusual secretion of breast milk or breast enlargement in men. Stop using Zantac and contact your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:

• Serious allergic reaction
• Hypersensitivity reactions

Always take Zantac exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The usual dose is either 150 mg in the morning and 150 mg in the evening or 300 mg at bedtime. Your exact dose will depend on your particular stomach condition. Swallow each tablet whole with some water. Zantac injection is not self-administered by an individual. It should be administered under the supervision of a healthcare professional. The usual dose is 50 mg every 6 to 8 hours, as a single injection into a muscle. Do not use Zantac if you are allergic to ranitidine or any other ingredients in Zantac. Before taking Zantac, tell your health care provider about any medical conditions such as stomach cancer, kidney disease, blood disease, lung disease, diabetes, immune system problems, heart problems, are pregnant or breastfeeding. Zantac may interact with medicines such as procainamide, warfarin, triazolam, midazolam, ketoconazole, atazanavir or delaviridine, gefitnib, Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory (NSAID) medicines, sucralfate (used to treat ulcers). Your doctor may advise that you take high doses or oral sucralfate (e.g. 2g) at least 2 hours after Zantac administration.
