Indications
Prolopa dispersible is indicated for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease in adults over 25 years of age.

Use and Dosage

When the dose gets higher, your doctor may increase the dose at 2 to 4-week intervals. This dose should be divided so that the medication is taken at least 4 times a day with, or immediately after, meals.
If you have been taking another form of levodopa, your doctor will determine your starting dose, based on the amount of levodopa you have been taking most recently. The dose of levodopa in levodopa-benserazide is usually quite a bit lower than your original dose. The benserazide helps the levodopa to get to where it is needed, so less levodopa is needed.
Most people find the best dose is 4 to 8 capsules of levodopa 100 mg – benserazide 25 mg daily (divided into 4 to 6 doses).
Many things can affect the dose of medication that a person needs, such as body weight, other medical conditions, and other medications. If your doctor has recommended a dose different from the one above, do not change the way that you are taking the medication without consulting your doctor.
When first starting the medication, it may be taken with meals or a snack to reduce stomach upset. Protein prevents levodopa-benserazide from being absorbed. Take this medication with a small snack, such as crackers or biscuits to help prevent an upset stomach.
Swallow the capsules whole and do not open them. Do not dissolve them in liquid.

- Sudden onset of sleep

Cautions
- Avoid abrupt withdrawal of therapy with levodopa and benserazide, as dopaminergic agents have been associated with a syndrome resembling neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) when therapy is abruptly stopped or significantly reduced after long-term use. Withdraw therapy gradually and monitor closely.
- Prolopa Dispersible can interact with some medications used during surgery. If you have surgery planned, inform your surgeon and anesthetist that you are taking Prolopa Dispersible.
- Benserazide is normally given in combination with levodopa as the combination product Prolopa. Levodopa should not be taken with protein-rich foods as they may reduce its absorption. Take Prolopa Dispersible with or without food.
