What is Jublia?

Jublia, with the generic name efinaconazole, is a topical solution indicated to treat onychomycosis of the toenails due to Trichophyton rubrum and Trichophyton mentagrophytes. Jublia can treat fungal infections but is not indicated for infections caused by bacteria.

This is available in Jublia 10 topical solution.

How does Jublia work?

This azole antifungal prevents certain types of fungus from growing. It inhibits the fungal lanosterol 14 alpha-demethylase, which is involved in the biosynthesis of a constituent of fungal cell membranes called ergosterol.

How to use Jublia

Please read the enclosed medication information leaflet before beginning to use this product. Do not use this topical medication if you have not fully understood all the information and instructions in the printed guide. If you need further medical advice or have queries on using Jublia, you can ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Before using this topical medication, clean and dry the infected area thoroughly. This should be applied at least 10 minutes after taking a bath or washing. Using the provided brush, apply the solution to the infected toenail/s. Make sure to cover the toenails, toenail folds, toenail bed or hyponychium, and the undersurface of the toenail. Wash and dry your hands thoroughly after application.

Remember to apply Jublia regularly for best results. This is usually applied in the affected toenails once daily for a span of 48 weeks, but your Jublia dosage and length of treatment will depend on your medical condition and response to treatment. To avoid further deterioration and recurrence of the illness, do not apply this cream more frequently or discontinue the use of this drug too soon.

Precautions

Before starting to use this drug, make sure to disclose your medical history to your physician. This includes any history of infections or diabetes. Some medical conditions may affect how your body will respond to treatment, particularly for long-term use. You also have to talk to your doctor about all the prescription drugs and nonprescription drugs you are taking, for they might have drug interactions with this solution.

Constantly lookout for an allergic reaction while on this medication. Do not use this antifungal cream if you have a known allergy to efinaconazole, clotrimazole, fluconazole, ketoconazole, other azole antifungals, and any inactive ingredients the solution may contain. Signs of severe hypersensitivity are itchiness, swelling of the face, skin rashes, severe dizziness, and breathing trouble. If this occurs, seek medical emergency treatment immediately.

When applying this medication, avoid getting the cream on any other areas of the body. If this happens, wash the area in running water right away. In addition, do not apply this medication near any heat source or an open flame because this solution could catch fire.
