Tenormin Dosage Forms

This drug is available in Tenormin 25 mg, 50 mg, and 100 mg tablets.

Tenormin Mechanism of Action

This beta1-selective beta-adrenergic receptor blocking agent primarily works by blocking the action of the endogenous catecholamines, norepinephrine, and epinephrine. It hampers the reaction to beta-adrenergic stimulation but has little to no effect on beta2 receptors.

This action decreases heart rate, the strain on the heart, and blood pressure. It effectively relaxes the blood vessels and blocks adrenaline and noradrenaline impulses in the heart.

How to Take Tenormin

Before starting your treatment using Tenormin, it is important to read the patient information leaflet. You must not take Atenolol or other medications unless you fully understand the uses and directions. Ask your physician or pharmacist for further medical advice or information while on this medication.

This prescription tablet is only meant to be taken orally. This is usually prescribed once to two times a day or as prescribed by the doctor. You may take Tenormin with or without a meal. Swallow this beta-blocker tablet and drink water right after. If you need to cut or dissolve your medication, ask for assistance from your healthcare provider.

Make a dosing schedule. It is best to take this prescription medication at equal intervals. If this is prescribed once daily, take it during the day to avoid insomnia. If you forget your dose, administer it at once, except if it is almost time for your next schedule. Do not increase or decrease your Tenormin dosage because it is based on how you will respond to the drug and your overall health condition.
