Prozac Information
Prozac (Generic name: Fluoxetine Hydrochloride) is an antidepressant used to treat major depressive disorder, bulimia nervosa (an eating disorder) obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). Fluoxetine Hydrochloride belongs to a class of medications called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). It is used for the treatment of depression and helps to elevate mood. Prozac is sometimes used together with another medication used together with another medication called Zyprexa (olanzaphine) to treat depression caused by bipolar disorder (manic depression). Take Prozac exactly as it was prescribed for you.
The most common Prozac side effects are constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, headache, insomnia, loss of appetite, nausea, sweating, vomiting, and etc. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as chest pain, confusion, fever, irregular heartbeat, mood or mental changes, nervousness, rigid muscles, unconsciousness, vision changes, or symptoms of an allergic reaction (difficult breathing; hives; rash; swelling), please inform your doctor immediately.
Do NOT take Prozac oral if you are allergic to Fluoxetine HCI or any of the ingredients in Prozac medication. Before taking Prozac, tell your doctor if you have had any medical conditions such as bipolar disorder (mania), diabetes, history of drug abuse or suicidal thoughts, kidney or liver disease, seizures (convulsions), and etc. Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use. They may interact with Prozac drug, especially of: antidepressants, anti-seizure drugs, and warfarin. Consult with your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
