Usage

Clopixol (Zuclopenthixol) is a prescription medicine used to treat acute and long-term schizophrenia, manic phase of manic-depressive illness and other mental illnesses with disturbances in thinking, emotional reactions and behaviour. The active substance in Clopixol tablet/Injection is zuclopenthixol. Clopixol belongs to a group of medicines known as antipsychotics (also called neuroleptics). It works by blocking the dopamine receptors, which prevents the overactivity of dopamine in the brain. This helps to control psychotic illness. Regulating dopamine level in the brain improves disturbing thoughts, feelings and behaviour in psychotic conditions such as schizophrenia.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Clopixol are redness, swelling or pain at the injection site, sleepiness, anxiety, head or migraine, low blood pressure, feeling of being mentally dulled or slowed down. Acute withdrawal symptoms, including nausea, vomiting, sweating and insomnia, have been described after abrupt cessation of Clopixol tablet.

• Changes in consciousness;

You should not take Clopixol if you are allergic to Zuclopenthixol or to any of the ingredients in Clopixol. Stop using Clopixol and seek medical advice immediately if you have any of the following allergic reactions: difficulty in breathing, swelling of face, lips, tongue or throat, which causes difficulty in swallowing or breathing, and severe itching of the skin.
