Polysporin Information

Polysporin Details (Brand and Generic)

CanadaPharmacyOnline.com currently offers the brand Polysporin from Canada manufactured by Johnson & Johnson. Unfortunately, there is no generic version. However, our customers may purchase over-the-counter non-prescription drugs like Avene Products and Compound W. For more information and further assistance, please call Customer Service at 1866.920.3784.

Dosage

Polysporin is available in the strength of 15 ml ear drops, 28 gm general itch cream, 30 gm complete ointment, and 177 ml Itch relief lotion

Usage

Polysporin is an over-the-counter medication used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria. The complete ointment treats minor wounds like burns, scrapes, and cuts. In addition, Polysporin treats mild skin infections. Eye/ear drops are used to treat and prevent external infections in the eye and ear. The active ingredient in Polysporin is Bacitracin zinc and polymyxin B sulfate. Bacitracin zinc and polymyxin B sulfate belong to an antibiotic class. They work together by weakening the bacteria's protective covering to kill bacteria.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Polysporin are irritation of the area where the cream is applied and worsening ear, eye, or skin infection

Stop using Polysporin and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Breathing difficulties;
• Eye pain;
• Fever;
• Hearing loss;
• Impaired vision;
• Increased sensitivity to light;
• Rash or hives;
• Severe ear pain;
• Swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat

Warnings and Interactions

You should not apply Polysporin if you are allergic to polymyxin B sulfate, bacitracin zinc, or any of the ingredients in Polysporin. It would be best if you used Polysporin precisely as your doctor prescribed it. Do not stop taking Polysporin without consulting your doctor. Do not give this drug to anyone else, even if they have the same symptoms. Apply the topical cream over the affected area and cover it with a dressing. Do not use topical ointment in the eyes. For the ear/eye drops, apply one or two drops to the affected area as directed by your doctor. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, except it is almost time for your next dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose.

Before you start using Polysporin, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• Skin conditions like eczema;
• Viral skin infections like cold sores or shingles

Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. The effect of Polysporin on a fetus is not established. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. It is not known if Polysporin passes into your breast milk. There may be a drug interaction between Polysporin and other drugs such as atracurium, cidofovir, pancuronium, cisplatin, oxaliplatin, streptozocin, and streptomycin.
