Altace Information:
Altace (Generic name: Ramipril) is a prescription medication used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Ramipril is an angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. It works by relaxing blood vessels, causing them to widen. Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks and kidney problems. Altace medication is also used to prevent heart problems (such as heart attacks) and/or strokes in certain high risk patients, and with other drugs (e.g., "water pills"/diuretics, digoxin) to treat congestive heart failure. Take Altace exactly as it was prescribed for you.
Altace Side Effects:
The most common Altace side effects are abdominal pain, constipation, cough, decreased sex drive, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, heartburn, insomnia, nausea, vomiting, and etc. If you are experiencing any severe side effects such as chest pain, confusion, fainting, fever, irregular heartbeat, low blood pressure, nervousness, numbness, vision changes, or symptoms of an allergic reaction (e.g., difficult breathing; hives; rash; swelling), please inform your doctor immediately.
Altace Precautions:
Do NOT take Altace oral if you are allergic to Ramipril or any of the ingredients in Altace medication. Before taking Altace, tell your doctor if you have had any medical conditions such as blood vessel disease, heart problems, high blood levels of potassium, liver or kidney disease, severe dehydration, strokes, and etc. Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) medications you use. Because they may contain ingredients that could increase your blood pressure or heart rate, especially of: lithium, NSAIDs, oral diabetes/insulin, potassium supplements, salt substitutes or diuretics, and other blood pressure-lowering medications. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
