Usage

Lidex 0.05% (Fluocinonide Acetonide) is a topical prescription medication used to treat inflamed skin rashes and itching caused by plaque psoriasis or skin conditions that respond to steroid medication. The active ingredient in Lidex cream is Fluocinonide Acetonide. Fluocinonide Acetonide belongs to the group of medicine called corticosteroids. It works by preventing the release of substances that cause inflammation hence reducing inflammation of the skin. Lidex cream/ointment may be used for other purposes not mentioned in this guide.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Lidex are skin atrophy, striae, acneform lesions, changes in skin color, miliaria, folliculitis, burning, and skin irritation. Stop using Lidex and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Depression and irritability;
• Muscle weakness;
• Redness, swelling, oozing pus, or other signs of skin infection in the place where you applied the cream;
• Severe skin rash;
• Symptoms of a severe allergic reaction (e.g., severe rash, hives, swollen face or throat, or difficulty breathing);
• Unintended weight gain;
• Unusual tiredness

Warnings and Interactions

Before using Fluocinonide Acetonide, tell your if you are allergic to it or other corticosteroids (such as hydrocortisone, prednisone) or any other allergies. Fluocinonide topical comes in ointment, cream, and gel in various strengths for use on the skin. It should be applied as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. You should carefully follow the directions on your prescription label and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Use Lidex topical precisely as directed. Do not use more or less of it or use it more often than prescribed by your doctor. Wash and dry your hands before applying the medication, and clean and dry the affected area. This medication is only for use on the skin. Do not let Fluocinonide topical cream or ointment get into your eyes or mouth, and do not swallow it. Avoid applying on the face, genital and rectal areas, skin creases, and armpits unless directed by your doctor. Apply a small amount of the medication to the affected area and gently rub in as directed by your doctor, usually 1 to 4 times daily, depending on your brand. Do not cover, bandage, or wrap the area unless required to do so by your doctor. You should reach out to your doctor if there is no significant improvement in your skin condition after 2 weeks of regular Lidex cream or gel application.

Before you start using Lidex, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• Adrenal disorder;
• Diabetes mellitus;
• Immunocompromised such as HIV/AIDs;
• Liver diseases;
• Poor blood circulation;
• Present sore in the affected skin;
• Untreated bacterial, tubercular, fungal, or most viral lesions of the skin (including herpes simplex, vaccinia, and chickenpox)

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when needed. It would be best to discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Corticosteroids such as Fluocinonide may pass into breast milk. If you are a breastfeeding mother taking this medication, it may affect your baby. Talk to your doctor about whether you should continue breastfeeding. There may be a drug interaction between Lidex and other drugs, such as other corticosteroids (prednisone) and immunosuppressants (cyclosporine, tacrolimus).
