Emla Patch (Lidocaine/Prilocaine) is an OTC combination patch that contains 2 amide-type local anesthetics, Lidocaine and Prilocaine. It is used to reduce pain and discomfort experienced due to minor procedures on intact skin, such as certain vaccinations, having blood taken, or laser treatment skin surgeries. Lidocaine works by stopping nerves from sending pain signals. Prilocaine works by temporarily numbing the skin and surrounding area. Emla patch is applied to clean, dry, healthy skin at least one hour before the procedure.
