The medication Xtandi is used to treat men with prostate cancer that has not spread to other parts of the body but no linger responds to medicine or surgery that lowers testosterone. It is also used to treat prostate cancer that has spread to other parts of the body in men who are receiving medicines to lower their testosterone level and who have had surgery to remove their testicles. Such patients may also have received previous cancer treatment with a medicine called docetaxel. Xtandi acts by blocking the activity of hormones called androgens (such as testosterone), which slows down the growth of prostate cancer. Take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. The usual dose is 160 mg (4 capsules) taken once a day. The dose should be taken at the same time each day. Swallow the capsules whole with water. Do not chew, dissolve or open the capsules. You can take this medicine with or without food.

Stop taking Xtandi and call your doctor at once if you have Lactic acidosis (a build-up of an acid in the blood) that can cause death or cardiovascular mortality. Symptoms include:

• Allergic reaction
• Bone fractures
• Falls
• Heart problems (heart attack, angina, coronary artery disease or heart failure
• Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome (PRES swelling in the rear part of the brain that can resolve) with symptoms of high blood pressure, headache, loss of speech or vision, confusion
• Seizures

Less serious side effects include feeling tired, high blood pressure, headache, hot flush, constipation, anxiety, forgetfulness, reduced concentration, decreased appetite, weight loss, nose-bleed, dizziness, drowsiness, restless leg syndrome, vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, rash and hallucinations. Please call your doctor if you have any further concerns or questions.

Do not take Xtandi if you are allergic to enzalutamide or any other ingredients in this medication, are pregnant or breastfeeding. You should not start or stop Xtandi before you talk to your healthcare provider that prescribed you Xtandi. Men who are sexually active with a pregnant woman must use a condom during and for three months after stopping treatment with Xtandi. If their sexual partner could become pregnant, a condom and another form of birth control must be used during and for three months after treatment. Before taking this medication, inform your doctor if you have seizures, liver or kidney problems, heart disorders, high blood pressure, fainting spells, have a risk of falls or broken bones, have electrolyte disturbances and fructose intolerance. Xtandi should not be given to patients less than 18 years of age. Xtandi can react with medications used to treat bacterial infections such as clarithromycin, doxycycline, medicines to treat certain psychiatric disorders such as sever anxiety or schizophrenia (e.g. diazepam, haloperidol), medicines to treat gout (colchicine), medicines used to lower cholesterol (e.g. atorvastatin), medicines to treat heart conditions and lower blood pressure (e.g. bisoprolol, diltiazem), medicines to treat serious disease related to inflammation (e.g. prednisone), medicines used to prevent the rejection of organ transplants (e.g. cyclosporine), medicines used to treat HIV infection (e.g. indinavir), medicines to treat epilepsy (e.g. carbamazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin), medicines used to prevent blood clots (e.g. warfarin, clopidogrel), medicines to treat cancer (e.g. cabazitaxel), and pain (e.g. tramadol), medicines used to treat thyroid conditions (e.g. levothyroxine), and stomach disorders (e.g. omeprazole).
