Usage

Lidoderm Patch (Lidocaine) is a prescription medicine used to relieve the pain of postherpetic neuralgia (burning, stabbing pains, or aches) that may last for months or years after a shingles infection). The active substance in Lidoderm Patch is Lidocaine. Lidocaine belongs to the class of medicine called Local anesthetics. It works by blocking nerve signals in your body, resulting in temporary loss of feeling in the area where you apply the patch. A Lidoderm patch may also be used for other purposes not mentioned in this guide.

The common side effects of Lidoderm Patch are application site reactions such as irritation, papules, petechia, abnormal sensation, burning sensation, discoloration, depigmentation, itching, and redness.

• Blurred vision;
• Drowsiness, confusion;
• Severe burning sensation;
• Tremors, seizures (convulsions);

Lidoderm Patch Precautions

Warnings and Interactions

Before using the Lidoderm patch, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it, other local anesthetics, or if you have any other allergies. You should apply a Lidoderm patch only to intact skin with no blisters. Apply the lidocaine patch to clean, dry, intact skin as directed by your doctor. Choose an area where the patch will not be rubbed by tight clothing. Do not apply the patch or topical system to an open wound or cut, to skin that is irritated or red, or to skin that is affected by a rash, burn, or other skin problem. If irritation or a burning sensation occurs during lidocaine application, remove the lidocaine patch or system and do not reapply until the irritation is gone. Once you've applied the patch, you should avoid exposing it to direct heat sources such as heating pads, electric blankets, heat lamps, hot tubs, heated waterbeds, or prolonged direct sunlight. Heat may cause more drugs to be released into your body, increasing the chance of side effects. Do not shower, bathe, or swim while wearing the prescription Lidoderm patch. You should stop using this patch and call your doctor if your pain lasts for longer than 7 days or if your pain worsens.

Before you start using Lidoderm Patch, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• A certain blood disorders such as methemoglobinemia, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency;
• Heart problems;
• Liver disease;
• Lung disease

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Inform your doctor if you become pregnant or plan to get pregnant while using the Lidoderm patch for postherpetic pain. During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. This medication passes into breastmilk. While there have been no reports of harm to nursing infants, consult your doctor before breastfeeding. There may be a drug interaction between Lidoderm Patch and other drugs such as acetaminophen, nitroglycerin, quinidine, tocainide, flecainide, chloroquine, mexiletine.
