Tapazole Information

Tapazole Details (Brand and Generic)

CanadaPharmacyOnline.com currently offers the brand Tapazole from Canada manufactured by Paladin. The generic Methimazole also comes from Canada by a different manufacturer.

Dosage

The brand Tapazole and its generic Methimazole are available in the strength of 5 mg and 10 mg tablets.

Usage

Tapazole (Methimazole) is a prescription medicine used to treat the symptoms of hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid) and graves' disease. The active ingredient in Tapazole is Methimazole. Tapazole belongs to a class of drugs called Antithyroid Agents. It works by stopping the thyroid gland from making too much thyroid hormone. It inhibits the synthesis of thyroid hormone by blocking the oxidation of iodine in the thyroid gland; it blocks the synthesis of thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3).

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Tapazole are feeling sick, high temperature, headaches, aching joints, altered taste, upset stomach, and an itchy rash.

Stop using Tapazole and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Headaches that are severe or don't go away;
• Liver problems;
• Painful mouth sores, pain when swallowing, red or swollen gums;
• Pale skin, easy bruising, unusual bleeding;
• Sudden weakness or ill feeling, fever, chills, sore throat, cold or flu symptoms;
• Symptoms of agranulocytosis, e.g., fever or sore throat;
• Swollen glands in your neck or jaw

Warnings and Interactions

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Before you start Tapazole, it would be best to inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to Methimazole, lactose, or any other allergies. It would be best if you took Tapazole precisely the way your doctor prescribed. You should use your medication regularly to get the most benefit, even if you feel fine or have no symptoms of hyperthyroidism. Get your prescription refilled before you run out of medicine entirely. If you are being prepared for surgery, tell the surgeon ahead of time that you are using Tapazole.

Methimazole can lower blood cells (such as a low number of red cells, white cells, and platelets), especially during the first few months of treatment. This can make it easier for you to bleed from an injury or get sick from being around others who are ill. You should maintain regular contact with your doctor because your blood may need to be tested often and inform your doctor if you notice any side of infection, such as the recurrent sore throat.

Before you start using Tapazole, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• Blood disorders such as agranulocytosis, aplastic anemia, thrombocytopenia);
• Liver diseases;
• Pancreatitis;
• Weakened immune system

Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Methimazole should not be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding. If you become pregnant while taking Methimazole, call your doctor immediately. Methimazole can cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman. Methimazole readily crosses the placental membranes and can induce goiter and even cretinism in the developing fetus. This medication can pass into breast milk and should not be used by nursing mothers due to the potential side effects on the newborn. Kindly reach out to your doctor concerning your treatment. There may be a drug interaction between Tapazole and other drugs such as eliglustat, sodium iodide I-131, anticoagulants such as warfarin, beta-blockers such as propranolol, diabetes medications such as metformin, digoxin (Lanoxin), and theophylline.
