Zelboraf Information
Zelboraf (generic name: Vemurafenib) is a medication for metastatic melanoma that has a certain type of the abnormal BRAF gene. Metastatic melanoma is a type of skin cancer than has spread from the original tumor site. Zelboraf is also used for melanoma that can not be surgically removed.
Zelboraf Side Effects
Common Zelboraf side effects include joint pain, rash, hair loss, tiredness, sunburn or sun sensitivity, nausea, itching, or warts. Severe Zelboraf side effects may include:
• Abnormal liver function tests;
• Allergic reactions;
• Eye reactions such as eye pain, swelling or redness;
• New melanoma lesions;
• Severe skin reactions such as blisters on your skin or mouth, peeling of the skin, fever or redness;
Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of these severe side effects.
Zelboraf Precautions
Do not use Zelboraf if you are allergic to vemurafenib or any of the ingredients in Zelboraf. Avoid sunlight while taking Zelboraf. Talk to your doctor before using Zelboraf if you have any heart problems, including a condition called long QT syndrome, have liver or kidney problems, have been told that you have low blood levels of potassium, calcium or magnesium, plan to have surgical, dental, or other medical procedures or have any other medical conditions. There are many drugs that may interact with Zelboraf. Tell your doctor about all of the drugs that you are taking, including all medications, vitamins and herbal supplements. Talk to your doctor about taking Zelboraf if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. Zelborafmay harm your unborn baby. Men and women who take Zelboraf should use birth control during treatment and for 2 months after stopping Zelboraf. Tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant while taking Zelboraf. Do not breastfeed while taking Zelboraf.
