Usage

Multaq (Dronedarone) is a prescription medication used treat heart rhythm disorders of the atrium. Multaq works to maintain normal heartbeats in people with these heart rhythm disorders. The active ingredient is dronedarone, an antiarrhythmic. Multaq lowers the risk of hospitalization for atrial fibrillation (A-Fib), a heart rhythm disorder.

Side Effects

Signs of Multaq allergy: difficulty breathing, hives (rash on your body), swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat—If you experience any of these symptoms, please call 911 or seek emergency medical care at the nearest emergency room (ER).

Common side effects of Multaq include: diarrhea, fatigue, feeling weak, skin rash or redness, or stomach pain. Inform your doctor immediately if any of the following serious side effects occur:
• Chest tightness, or wheezing;
• Irregular heartbeat or pulse;
• Little to no urination;
• Signs of ow magnesium or potassium levels - irregular heartbeat or pulse; muscle cramp or limp feeling;
• Signs of liver problems - jaundice, unusual tiredness, unusual darkening of the urine;
• Signs of heart problems – rapid weight gain, shortness of breath

Warnings and Interactions

You should not take Multaq if you have severe liver disease, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have had lung problems or liver problems after start using amiodarone. Multaq is not safe for you if you have:
• A very slow heart rate less than 50 beats per minute;
• Certain type of heart problem called heart block, QT prolongation;
• Heart failure;
• Liver or lung problems

Before you start taking this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical history and if you have had:
• Certain types of heart problems or irregular heartbeat;
• An electrolyte imbalance (low levels of potassium or magnesium in your blood);
• If you have a pacemaker;
• Liver or kidney disease

Multaq may increase the risk of serious cardiovascular events especially in patients with permanent atrial fibrillation (AF). This medication may also cause dizziness and fainting. Alcohol or marijuana can make you dizzier. Do not drive or perform any activity that requires alertness until you can do it safely. Talk to your doctor about all the medications you take including prescription drugs, over-the-counter products, and herbal supplements. There may be a drug interaction between Multaq and other medications, especially: antibiotics, antidepressants, antifungal drugs, antipsychotic medicines, and other heart rhythm medicines.
