Domperidone Information:

Domperidone (domperidone) is a medication used to increase movements or contractions of the stomach and bowel. Domperidone is also used to treat nausea and vomiting caused by other medications used to treat Parkinson’s disease. For the treatment of bowel movements, Domperidone works by blocking dopamine receptors in the gastrointestinal system, which allows for the lowering of sphincter pressure, leading to easier bowel movements. For the treatment of nausea and vomiting, Domperidone works by blocking dopamine receptors in the nervous system that control nausea. This medication should not be used by breast-feeding women to increase production of breast milk due to safety concerns. To make sure Domperidone is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have bleeding from the stomach or other problems involving the bowels, a pituitary tumor, or liver disease. Tell your doctor about any other medications you are currently taking in order to reduce the risk of interactions. Domperidone Directions:

Domperidone may be associated with a small increased risk of serious ventricular arrhythmias or sudden cardiac death. A higher risk was observed in patients:
• older than 60 years of age;

• having predisposing factors for QT prolongation including concomitant use of QT-prolonging drugs or CYP 3A4 inhibitors.
• Domperidone is now contraindicated in patients:
• with prolongation of cardiac conduction intervals, particularly QT;
• with significant electrolyte disturbances;
• with cardiac disease (such as congestive heart failure);
• with moderate or severe liver impairment;
• receiving QT-prolonging drugs and potent CYP3A4 inhibitors.

Domperidone should be used at the lowest effective dose to a maximum recommended daily dose of 30 mg and for the shortest possible duration.
