How can I benefit from Canadian pharmacies if I have Atrial Fibrillation?

Question:
I have benefited from Canadian pharmacy prices in the past, but I am sorry to find out that they do not carry Tikosyn or generic Dofetilide. I wonder what the reason is. I have been buying it in Florida with the best price for Dofetilide 60 capsules 25 mg being $159, which is the best price I found through an online discount source. What do people do in Canada with Atrial Fibrillation where Tikosyn is not available? Just curious. Thank you.

Answer:

Atrial Fibrillation Medication in Canada

At one time, Tikosyn used to be available through Health Canada's Special Access Program but was withdrawn in September 2013.

Here are the commonly used class III Antiarrhythmic Agents in Canada:

Class III: Potassium (K) channel blockers

•    Amiodarone (prolongs phase 3; also acts on phases 1, 2, and 4)

•    Sotalol (prolongs phase 3, decreases slope of phase 4)

•    Ibutilide (prolongs phase 3)

•    Dofetilide (prolongs phase 3)

Currently, of the drugs mentioned above, pharmacies verified by PharmacyChecker.com appear to only carry Amiodarone. Amiodarone is a medication used to treat and prevent various types of irregular heartbeats. Amiodarone and the other medications should all be available in Canada. These medications should only be used under direct supervision and recommendations by a cardiologist.

United States Tikosyn Availability

Tikosyn (dofetilide) is a prescription medication used to treat certain types of serious irregular heartbeat like atrial fibrillation and flutter. It is used to restore normal heart rhythm and maintain a steady, regular heartbeat. The FDA advises that while Tikosyn has important benefits, it also has serious known risks. As a result, it is available in the U.S. only under specially created safety controls. If this drug is bought from foreign sources, these safety controls may be bypassed, placing patients at higher risk.

PharmacyChecker.com-verified online pharmacies in our program do not offer Tikosyn or its generic alternative, dofetilide; however, you may be able to still find savings using our website.

Another option to find savings on your medications is to search PharmacyChecker.com discount coupons that can be used at local pharmacy in the U.S. Just go to a price page for Tikosyn and enter your zip code to see prices in your area. Then, print the discount card and take it to the specified pharmacy.
