If you are considering purchasing medication from outside the U.S., be aware that, in most circumstances, it is technically not legal for individuals to import prescription drugs; however, U.S. government officials have stated that individuals who order non-controlled prescription drugs from Canada or other foreign sources (up to a three-month supply) for their own use are not being pursued or prosecuted.
What is the difference between Proctofoam HC and Proctofoam? Is there a generic available?
Both Proctofoam and Proctofoam HC are used to treat variations of swelling or irritation of the skin. Although both products contain the same active ingredient (pramoxine hydrochloride), Proctofoam HC is a combination product that contains pramoxine hydrochloride and hydrocortisone acetate. In the U.S., Proctofoam is available over-the-counter (OTC) while Proctofoam HC requires a prescription.
Unfortunately, some American and Canadian pharmacies have recently had trouble obtaining Proctofoam HC from their suppliers. Online pharmacies in our program currently list prices for Proctofoam HC dispensed by licensed pharmacies in Canada as well as other international locations, such as the United Kingdom. Currently, the lowest PharmacyChecker price for Proctofoam HC 1%/1% is $1.90/gram. That's 88% off the average U.S. retail price.
Keep in mind that the best person to answer questions related to your specific prescription—including providing information about drug availability especially during times of drug shortages or backorder—is your pharmacist. This is true whether you order your medication from a local U.S. pharmacy or online from an international online pharmacy.
If you are using an online pharmacy verified by PharmacyChecker.com, you can contact the pharmacist of your chosen online pharmacy by accessing their website. Online pharmacies in our program must provide customers with tool to contact the pharmacist for consultation and are required to publish a working telephone number and valid mailing address on their website. Most members have a "Contact Us" on their websites, which also typically includes their business hours. Some pharmacies also have a "Live Chat" option allowing you to ask questions while on the pharmacy's website.
Although drug shortages and backorders by manufacturers should concern the conscious consumer, your pharmacist is a resource who can work with you and your doctor to provide alternatives to decrease the chances that your drug therapy is negatively affected.
