- Hives, rash
- Difficulty breathing
- Swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat
Cautions
- Do not use Melanocyl if you are sensitive to light, have lens damage in your eye, or if you have ever had skin cancer.
- Do not take Melanocyl if you have any of the following conditions:
- Lupus, porphyria, albinism, or other conditions that cause you to be more sensitive to light
- History of skin cancer, melanoma or squamous cell carcinoma

- Treatment with arsenic trioxide

- Avoid applying sunscreen to active areas of psoriasis that will be treated with UVA therapy.
- Do not expose your skin or lips to sunlight for 8 hours following your UVA treatment
- The effect of this medicine on unborn children is unknown. Consult with your healthcare provider before taking Melanocyl if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.
- Ask your healthcare provider about the risks and benefits of using Melanocyl while breastfeeding.
- Some other drugs may interact with Melanocyl and cause adverse reactions. Tell your healthcare provider about all the medications that you take, including over the counter medicines, but especially any of the following:
- Anthralin
- Antibiotic or sulfa drugs
- Certain antimicrobial soaps
- Diuretic medicines
- Coal tar applied to your skin or scalp
- Medicine used to treat mental illness like fluphenazine, thioridazine, and others
- Staining dye such as methylene blue, rose bengal, or methyl orange.
