Olmetec is in a group of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. Olmetec (Olmesartan) is used to treat high blood pressure in adults and children who are at least 6 years old. It works by keeping blood vessels from narrowing in order to improve blood flow and reduce blood pressure. The usual recommended start dose is 20 mg.

The brand Olmetec is manufactured by Merck and the generic Olmetec is currently from Sandoz in Canada. It may come from other international countries. Olmetec is available in a 20 mg or 40 mg dosage.
Get medical help immediately if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction while taking Olmesartan.
• Difficulty breathing;
• Hives;
• Swelling of your face, lips, tongue or throat
Stop taking Olmetec and call your doctor at once if you have one of these serious side effects:
• Lightheadedness or feeling like you might pass out;
• Little or no urination;
• Severe or ongoing diarrhea with weight loss;
• Chest pain;
• Fast heart rate;
• Swelling in your hands or feet;
• High potassium levels:
o Nausea, slow or unusual heart rate, weakness, loss of movement
Less serious side effects of Olmesartan may include dizziness.

Olmetec should be taken as prescribed by your doctor. Talk to your doctor about your medical history to be sure you can safely take Olmetec. Particularly if you have liver disease, congestive heart failure, or if you’re dehydrated. If you have diabetes, do not use Olmetec together with other drugs that contain aliskiren. Do not use Olmetec if you are pregnant and stop taking this medication right away if you become pregnant. This drug may cause injury or death to an unborn baby. You should not breastfeed while on this medication. There may be an interaction between Olmetec and other medications such as other blood pressure medications, ACE-inhibitors such as aliskiren, medicines that alter potassium levels, NSAIDs, antidepressants, anti-cancer medications, and more. If you are taking any of these medications, speak to your doctor.
