Indications

Westcort Ointment is a topical medication that contains hydrocortisone valerate, a type of corticosteroid.

Westcort Ointment is used to treat various skin conditions characterized by inflammation, such as eczema, dermatitis, allergies, and rash.

Hydrocortisone valerate works by reducing swelling and inflammation in the skin.

Use Westcort Ointment as directed by your healthcare provider or as indicated on the label. Do not use it more frequently or for a longer duration than prescribed.

Consult with your healthcare provider for specific information about the appropriate use of Westcort Ointment for your condition.

Use and Dosage

Use this medication on the skin only. However, do not use it on the face, groin, or underarms unless directed to do so by your doctor.

Wash and dry your hands before using. Clean and dry the affected area. Apply a thin film of medication to the affected area and gently rub in as directed by your doctor, usually 2 to 3 times daily. Do not bandage, cover, or wrap the area unless directed to do so by your doctor.

After applying the medication, wash your hands unless you are using this medication to treat the hands. When applying this medication near the eyes, avoid getting it in the eyes because this may worsen or cause glaucoma. Also, avoid getting this medication in the nose or mouth. If you get the medication in these areas, rinse with plenty of water.

Use this medication only for the condition for which it was prescribed. Do not use it for longer than prescribed.

Side Effects

Westcort Ointment, which contains hydrocortisone valerate, is a topical medication used to treat various skin conditions. Like any medication, it can have side effects.

  • Stinging, burning, itching, dryness, or redness at the application site may occur when this medication is first applied to the skin.
  • Although rare, some individuals may experience an allergic reaction to Westcort Ointment. Signs of an allergic reaction may include rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing. If you experience any of these symptoms, seek immediate medical attention.
  • Prolonged use of Westcort Ointment or excessive application may lead to thinning of the skin, which can make it more susceptible to injury or infection.
  • Westcort Ointment may cause changes in skin colour, such as lightening or darkening of the treated area.
  • Some individuals may experience acne or acne-like eruptions as a side effect of Westcort Ointment.
  • In rare cases, Westcort Ointment may cause increased hair growth in the treated area.
  • Prolonged use or excessive application of Westcort Ointment may increase the risk of developing stretch marks.
  • Although Westcort Ointment is a topical medication, it can be absorbed into the bloodstream in small amounts. This can potentially lead to systemic effects, especially if used over a large area of the body or for an extended period. Systemic effects may include adrenal suppression, Cushing’s syndrome, or other hormonal imbalances. However, the risk of systemic effects is generally low with topical corticosteroids like Westcort Ointment.

Follow the prescribed dosage and duration of treatment as directed by your healthcare provider. If you experience any concerning side effects or have any questions, consult your healthcare provider.
