Invokamet (Canagliflozin/Metformin) is a prescription medication that is used by adults with type 2 diabetes who are already taking Canagliflozin and metformin as separate tablets and have good control of glucose. Both Canagliflozin and Metformin belong to the class of medications called oral hypoglycemics. Canagliflozin works by helping the kidneys get rid of glucose from your bloodstream. Metformin works by lowering the glucose production in the liver and also causes your intestines to absorb less glucose. This medication is used along with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes.
Invokamet Side Effects
The common side effects may include bloating gas, diarrhea, frequent urination, nausea, vomiting, unusual dry mouth and weakness. The serious side effects may include:
• A light-headed feeling like you might pass out;
• High potassium – slow heart rate, weak pulse, muscle weakness, tingly feeling;
• Kidney problems;
• Liver problems such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite;
• New pain, tenderness, sores, ulcers or infections in your legs or feet;
• Vaginal yeast infection;
• Yeast infection of the penis
Precautions
You should not take Invokamet if you are allergic to Canagliflozin and Metformin or if you have any other allergies. Before you start taking this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical history and about all the medications you take including OTC and herbal medications. You may experience blurred vision, dizziness or drowsiness due to extremely low of high blood sugar levels. You should not drive, use machinery or do any activity that requires you to be alert. Limit alcohol intake while using this medication. This medication should not be used during pregnancy unless it is clearly needed. Metformin passes into breast milk in small amounts. There may be an interaction between Invokamet and other medications such as rifampin, phenytoin, ritonavir, metoprolol, propranolol, glaucoma eye drops, etc.
