Relpax (Eletriptan) Medication Information

Uses

Relpax is a serotonin receptor agonist (triptan) that is used to treat a migraine with or without aura. 

Dosage

The tablets are available in several different strengths:

  • 20 mg
  • 40 mg

Side Effects

The most common side effects of Relpax include:

  • Nausea
  • Asthenia
  • Dizziness
  • Somnolence

Precautions

Relpax can cause serious heart issues, like heart attack, and arrhythmias, if these occur then Relpax should be discontinued. 

There is a risk of subarachnoid hemorrhage or stroke, and if these occur the medication should be discontinued. 

It is important to not over use Eletriptan, as it can cause an overuse headache. 

Interactions

The most common drug interactions with Relpax include:

  • SSRIs
  • SNRIs
  • Triptans 
  • Ketoconazole
  • Clarithromycin 
  • Cimetidine 

Speak with your doctor for more information and before starting a new medication with Eletriptan. 

Storage

Store at room temperature (68-77ºF).

  • Relpax carries a risk of serotonin syndrome, it is important to let your doctor know if you start any other medications. 
  • Overusing Eletriptan can cause an overuse headache. 
  • The dose of Relpax can be repeated after 2 hours if it is needed, but you should not exceed 80 mg.
