Usage

Exelon is a drug which is prescribed for the treatment of dementia in patients who have Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s disease. It is available in oral solution, tablets and skin patches. The active ingredient in this medication is Rivastigmine, which is an acetylocholinesterase inhibitor, and it works by slowing down the breakdown of a chemical in the brain called acetylcholine, which is important for the processes of memory, thinking, and reasoning. The breakdown of this chemical is associated with dementia. Rivastigmine increases the amount of acetylcholine in the brain, which helps to slow down the processes in dementia.

Side Effects and Precautions

Stop using the medication and get medical care if you have an allergic reaction. Signs of an allergic reaction may include difficulty breathing, hives (rash on your body), and swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. If you experience any of these symptoms, please call 911 or seek emergency medical care at the nearest emergency room (ER).

• Urination problems
