Sinemet (Carbidopa/Levodopa) is a prescription antidyskinectic combination medication that is used to treat the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. Levodopa works by controlling the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease by correcting the chemical imbalance in the brain that produces symptoms. Carbidopa helps prevent the breakdown of Levodopa in the bloodstream so more Levedopa can reach the brain. This medication can be used on its own or in combination with other medications for Parkinson’s disease.

We currently have the brand from Turkey and the generic Syndopa (or Syndopa Plus by Sun Pharma) comes from India. It may come from other countries around the world. This medication is available in the strength of 25/250mg, 10/100mg, 25/100mg tablets.
Common side effects include:
• Feeling dizzy;
• Headache;
• Nausea;
• Trouble sleeping
Serious side effects include:
• Changes in the mood;
• Fainting;
• Feeling depressed and confused;
• Increase in eye blinking/twitching;
• Thoughts of suicide;
• Worsening of involuntary movements/spasms
You should not use this medication, if you are allergic to carbidopa or levodopa or if you have any other allergies. Before you start using this medication, inform your doctor about your medical history and about all the medications you are currently taking including OTC and herbal medications. This drug may make you drowsy or dizzy or cause blurred vision. Do not do any activity that requires alertness. Avoid alcoholic beverages. If you are having surgery, inform your doctor or dentist that you are taking this medication. Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant while on this medication. Levedopa can pass into breast milk and affect milk production, talk to your doctor before breast-feeding. There may be an interaction between Sinemet and other medications such as anesthetics, risperidone, selegiline, amitriptyline, chlorpromazine, etc.
