Seasonale (Levonorgestrel/Ethinyl Estradiol) is a combination prescription medication used to prevent pregnancy. This medication contains two hormones, a progestin and an estrogen. It works by preventing ovulation during your menstrual cycle. It also makes your vaginal fluid thicker to help prevent fertilization and changes the lining of the uterus to prevent a fertilized egg from attaching to the uterus. If the fertilized egg does not attach to the uterus, it passes out of the body. Birth control pills may also make your periods more regular, decrease blood loss and painful periods and decrease your risk of ovarian cysts. It is also used to treat acne. Seasonale is usually taken once daily or as directed by your doctor.
