Description

Generic Name: linagliptin

Drug Class: dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor

Indications

Tradjenta is an oral prescription drug used to improve glycemic control among adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This is prescribed together with proper diet and exercise. Tradjenta is not indicated for type 1 diabetes and diabetic ketoacidosis.

Dosage Forms

This is available in Tradjenta 5 mg tablet.

Mechanism of Action

It improves the concentration of active incretin hormones, which can stimulate the release of insulin in a glucose-dependent manner. It also lessens the level of glucagon in the system. It increases insulin biosynthesis from pancreatic beta cells, especially if the blood glucose levels are elevated.

How to Take Tradjenta

It is necessary to read the information leaflet or medication guide provided by a healthcare provider before beginning to use Tradjenta. You must not take any medication unless you have read and comprehended the instructions and uses. For more medical advice or information, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

The only way to take this tablet is by mouth. This is usually prescribed once a day. It is suitable for consumption with or without meals. After swallowing the tablet completely, drink plenty of water. Cutting or crushing this product is not recommended.

Make a dosing schedule. Do not increase or decrease your Tradjenta dose. You should also not take this oral drug more frequently than advised.

This diabetes medication is only an adjunct to proper diet and regular exercise. It may not work as well if lifestyle changes are not applied. Always eat a healthy balanced meal and do exercise regularly.

Warnings and Precautions

Do not take this prescription drug if you have a known allergy to linagliptin or any inactive ingredients the capsule may contain. Any indicators of major allergic reactions, such as problems breathing, swelling of the face and neck, severe dizziness, swollen lymph nodes, hives/itchiness, and skin rashes, should always be kept in mind. Stop using this oral medication and seek emergency medical treatment right away if this happens.

Tradjenta may be contraindicated for people with a history of pancreatitis, gallstones, and heart failure. You should also discuss all of your prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, and herbal products with your doctor owing to the possibility of drug interactions.

When blood sugar levels are excessively high or too low, symptoms such as dizziness, drowsiness, and blurred vision are typical. When performing duties that need attention and good vision, exercise caution.
