Cardura (Doxazosin) is a prescription medication used to treat high blood pressure. Lowering high blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. The drug is also used to improve urination in men with an enlarged prostate. Cardura XL, the extended-release form of this drug, is used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia and should not be used to treat hypertension. The active ingredient in Cardura is Doxazosin. Doxazosin belongs to a class of drugs called alpha-blockers. It works by relaxing the blood vessels to improve blood circulation in patients with high blood pressure. It also relaxes the prostate muscles to relieve benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) symptoms.
