Usage

Alupent (Orciprenaline - Metaproterenol) is a prescription medication used to relieve symptoms of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD), such as coughing, wheezing, and breathlessness. The active substance in the Alupent tablet is Metaproterenol. Metaproterenol belongs to the group of medicine called bronchodilators (Beta2 Agonists). It works by relaxing and opening the air passages in the lungs, making it easier to breathe.

The common side effects of Alupent are tremors, headache, tachycardia, nervousness, palpitation, heartburn, and dizziness.

Stop using Alupent and contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects such as:
• A light-headed feeling, like you, might pass out;
• A terrible headache;
• Severe chest pain;
• Very bad dizziness;
• Worsening or no improvement in your symptoms

Warnings and Interactions

Before taking a Metaproterenol tablet, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it or other similar bronchodilators such as albuterol, salmeterol, terbutaline, or sympathomimetic drugs such as epinephrine, pseudoephedrine. This medication should be taken by mouth and as prescribed by your doctor. Do not take more of this medication or take it more often than recommended by your doctor. If you have been directed to use this medication daily, use it regularly each day to get the most benefit from it. It would be best to know that Orciprenaline controls symptoms of asthma and other lung diseases but does not cure them. Hence, you should continue to use Metaproterenol even if you feel well. Do not stop using this medication without reaching out to your doctor. You should know that Alupent tablets can make you feel dizzy or shaky. Do not drive or use tools or heavy machinery until you feel better. It would be best if you do not smoke as it causes damage to your lungs and will make your condition worse.

Before you start using Alupent, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:
• An overactive thyroid gland;
• A history of heart problems such as cardiac arrhythmias, tachycardia;
• Diabetes mellitus;
• High blood pressure;
• Low levels of potassium in your blood;
• Seizure disorders;

Tell your doctor about all the medications you use, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, herbal products, and vitamin supplements. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. If you become pregnant while using metaproterenol, call your doctor immediately. It is not known whether this drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding. There may be a drug interaction between Alupent and other drugs, such as MAO inhibitors (e.g., furazolidone, linezolid, isocarboxazid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine), other beta-blockers such as propranolol, diuretics such as furosemide.
