Asacol is a drug available to treat ulcerative colitis, proctitis and proctosigmoiditis. It also stops the symptoms of ulcerative colitis from recurring. Ulcerative Colitis is a long-term inflammatory bowel disease that can affect texture, composition, and stool frequency. The active ingredient Mesalamine works by affecting the substance in the body that causes inflammation, tissue damage and diarrhea which are common symptoms of these conditions. Ulcerative colitis is a type of inflammatory bowel disease. Proctitis and proctosigmoiditis are conditions causing inflammation of the rectum.
