Dificid (Fidaxomicin) is used to treat diarrhea caused by an infection with Clostridium difficile. Fidaxomicin belong to the class of medications called macrolide antibiotics. It works by killing bacteria in the intestines but it is not absorbed by your body. Dificid will not work for other types of infections including viral infections. This medication is usually taken with or without food twice daily.

The common side effects of Dificid may include bloating, diarrhea, gas, itching, nausea, skin rash and vomiting.
Inform your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:
• Black, tarry or bloody stools;
• Signs of infection;
• Unusual tiredness;
• Vomit that looks like coffee grounds
