Evoxac Uses

Evoxac, with the generic name cevimeline hydrochloride, is an oral medication indicated to treat symptoms of dry mouth among patients with Sjogren’s Syndrome. This disorder of the immune system affects the mucous membranes and moisture-secreting glands of your eyes and mouth.

This is available in Evoxac 30 mg capsule forms.

Evoxac Mechanism of Action

This cholinergic agonist works by binding and activating the muscarinic M1 and M3 receptors. The M1 receptors are also known as the secretory glands, and through their activation, secretions from the glands will be increased. On the other hand, the M3 receptors are found on the smooth muscles and in other glands that help stimulate the secretion in the salivary glands. This results in smooth muscle contraction and increased glandular secretions.
