Rocaltrol Information
Rocaltrol is a prescription medication used to treat hyperparathyroidism and metabolic bone disease in people who have chronic kidney failure. Calcitriol is a man-made active form of Vitamin D, normally made in the kidney. Rocaltrol is also used to help treat calcium deficiency (hypocalcaemia). This medication works by preventing certain types of calcium/phosphorus/parathyroid problems that can occur with long-term kidney dialysis or hypoparathyroidism as well as, maintaining the balance of calcium and phosphorus in the blood. In addition, Calcitriol is used to increase the amount of calcium in the blood and help proper bone formation for people with chronic kidney failure that are undergoing dialysis. Do not take this medication if you are allergic, have high calcium levels or have a medical history of heart disease, kidney disease or kidney stones.
