Usage

Selzentry (Maraviroc) is a prescription medication used to prevent specific viral cells (Human Immunodeficiency virus) from multiplying in your body. The active ingredient in Selzentry is Maraviroc. Maraviroc belongs to the class of medicine called entry inhibitors (Chemokine’s receptors antagonist). It works by antagonizing human CCR5 and HIV-1 gp-120; blocking this interaction prevents CCR5-tropic HIV-1 entry into cells. This lowers your chance of getting HIV complications such as new infections, cancer and improves your quality of life. Maraviroc is not a cure for HIV infection. To decrease your risk of spreading HIV disease to others, continue to take all HIV medications exactly as prescribed by your doctor.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects of Selzentry are upper respiratory infections, arthritis, cough, fever, rash, constipation and dizziness or light-headedness. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist immediately.

Warnings and Interactions

If you have severe kidney disease, you may not take Selzentry if you use certain other medications. Tell your doctor about all other medications you use. Selzentry may cause serious liver problems. Stop taking this medicine and seek medical treatment at once if you have a severe drug reaction that can harm your liver. Symptoms may include itching or rash, vomiting, upper stomach pain, dark urine, or jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes). Maraviroc affects your immune system and may increase your risk of developing infections or cancer. Talk to your doctor about other possible risks.

Before you start using Selzentry, inform your doctor about your medical history, especially if you have:

• Liver disease (including hepatitis B and C);
