Product Details

Cogentin (Benztropine) is used in combination with other medications to treat the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease (muscle spasms, stiffness, tremors, poor muscle control). Cogentin is also used to treat and prevent these symptoms when they are caused by other medication such as chlorpromazine, fluphenazine, perphenazine, and others. This medication is not a cure for Parkinson’s disease. Cogentin works by reducing the effects of certain chemicals in the body that may be unbalanced as a result of Parkinson’s disease, drug therapy and other causes. By balancing these chemicals and returning them to normal levels, symptoms can be greatly reduced.

Common side effects of Cogentin include nausea or vomiting, dry mouth, blurred vision, or increased light sensitivity. Contact your doctor immediately if you notice more serious side effect such as fast or pounding heartbeats, confusion or hallucinations, severe mouth dryness, loss of appetite or weight loss, sever constipation, little or no urination, changes in vision, severe skin rash, fever, weakness, dizziness, or signs of dehydration. If you notice any more serious side effects, or signs of an allergic reaction, seek emergency medical attention.

You should not use Cogentin if you are allergic to Benztropine. To make sure this medication is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have ever had glaucoma, mental illness, a nerve-muscle disorder, a history of alcoholism, a bowel or bladder obstruction, urination problems, kidney disease, or if you have severely ill or otherwise debilitated. Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding in order to discuss any possible risks.
