Usage

Livalo is a prescription medication that is used to treat high cholesterol in adults and an inherited form of high cholesterol in children at least 8 years old. Livalo is approved for hyperlipidemia and mixed dyslipidemia. Pitavastatin belongs to a group of drugs called HMG CoA reductase inhibitors, or “statins.” This medication works by reducing the amount of cholesterol made by the liver. Lowering bad cholesterol and triglycerides and raising good cholesterol will decrease the risk of heart disease and helps prevent strokes and heart attacks. Livalo will work better if it is combined with other lifestyle changes such as exercise, quitting smoking in addition to eating proper diet. The recommended dose is 2 mg and the maximum dose is Livalo 4 mg. Swallow the tablet whole. Do not crush, split, dissolve or chew the Livalo tablets. Side Effects

The common side effects of Livalo may include back pain, constipation, diarrhea, mild muscle pain, mild-skin rash and pain in the legs or arms. If you experience any of these side effects and they are bothersome, please contact your doctor:

If you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, inform your doctor right away. It is not known if this medication passes into breast milk. There are other medications that may interact with Pitavastatin such as colchicine and gemfibrozil. If you take other medications to lower your cholesterol, take Pitavastatin at least 1 hour before or at least 4 hours after taking these medications.
