Clomid (Clomiphene) is a fertility medication that is used to treat women who are having trouble getting pregnant because they are not ovulating in a normal manner. Clomid is also used by men to help improve several aspects of male fertility, including low testosterone levels, hormone ratios, and sperm count. Clomiphene belongs to the class of medications known as ovulatory agents. This medication works by causing ovulation in women. Clomid should not be taken by women whose ovaries no longer make eggs properly. The recommended starting dose of Clomiphene is 50 mg daily for five days. Clomid works in men by binding to estrogen receptors and blocking the effect of estrogen. This causes increased production of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). The additional FSH acts on the Sertoli cells of the testes to stimulate sperm production.
