Indications

Parlodel is a prolactin inhibitor used to treat hyperprolactinemia, a hormone imbalance where too much prolactin is produced in the blood. This medication is also sometimes used with surgery or radiation to treat acromegaly, a condition caused by a pituitary gland that produces too much growth hormone.

Bromocriptine is a sympatholytic dopamine D2 receptor antagonist that lowers prolactin production through its inhibitory actions on dopamine receptors. Parlodel may also offer antitumoral effects caused by too much prolactin.

This hormone medication is an effective treatment for hyperprolactinemia that is generally well tolerated. Parlodel has been found to facilitate pregnancy in women with this condition and causes no teratogenic effect in mother or child.
