Product Details

Estraderm patch (Estradiol) is a prescription medication that is used to help reduce the symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes, vaginal dryness, burning, itching and to prevent osteoporosis in women who have already gone through menopause. Estradiol patch belongs to the class of medications known as estrogen replacement therapy. Estradiol is an estrogen and it works by replacing estrogen in women who can no longer produce enough oxygen. This patch should be applied to your skin on the same days twice a week so it should be changed once every 3-4 days.

Side Effects and Precautions

The common side effects may include bloating, breast tenderness, headache, nausea, vomiting and weight changes. The serious side effects may include:
• Bleeding (spotting, prolonged or recurrent bleeding);
• Breast lumps;
• Increased or new vaginal irritation/itching/odor/discharge;
• Increased thirst or urination;
• Mental or mood changes;
• Severe stomach or abdominal pain

You should not use Estraderm patches if you are allergic to Estradiol or if you have any other allergies. Before you start using this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical conditions and about all the medications you are currently taking including OTC and herbal medications. You should not smoke or use tobacco while using this medication because smoking with increase your risk of stroke, blood clots and high blood pressure especially in women older than 35. This medication must not be used during pregnancy. If you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, inform your doctor right away. This medication passes into breast milk. There may be an interaction between Estraderm and other medications such as itraconazole, erythromycin, warfarin, phenobarbital, etc.
