Dosage

The generic Theodur is available in the strength of 100 mg, 200 mg, and 300 mg extended-release 12 Hr tablets. Usage

Theo-Dur (Theophylline SR 12 HR) is a prescription medication that is used for the treatment of lung diseases such as asthma, bronchitis and emphysema. Theophylline is a bronchodilator. It belongs to the class of drugs known as xanthines. This medication works by relaxing muscles around the airway in the lungs. As a result, this medication helps you breathe more easily. And ultimately, The-Dur help decrease time lost from work or school due to breathing problems. Theophylline must be used regularly to be effective. This medication does not work right away and should not be used to as a rescue inhaler. For quick relief, you should use your rescue inhaler such as Albuterol, Proair HFA, Proventil and Ventolin inhaler.

Side Effects and Precautions

Signs of an allergic reaction may include difficulty breathing, hives (rash on your body), swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat—If you experience any of these symptoms, please call 911 or seek emergency medical care at the nearest emergency room (ER).

The common side effects of Theodur may include: abdominal or stomach pain, diarrhea, headache, increased urination, irritability, nausea or vomiting, nervousness and restlessness. Notify your doctor or seek emergency medical care if you have any serious side effects such as:

• Confusion;
• Dizziness;
• Fainting;
• Fast or slow or irregular heartbeat;
• Muscle cramps;

• Severe nausea and vomiting

Warnings and Interactions

There may be an interaction between Theodur and other medications, especially: carbamazepine, fluvoxamine, mexiletine, propranolol, rifampin, St. John’s wort, ticlopidine, medications containing aminophylline or oxtriphylline.
