Sporanox (Itraconazole) is a prescription medication used to treat various fungal infections. Fungal infections usually affect the skin, hair, nails, or mucous membranes and may be difficult to treat especially people with weakened immune system either due to medication or chronic illness. The active ingredient in Sporanox is Itraconazole. Itraconazole belongs to a class of drugs called antifungals. It works by stopping the growth of fungi and prevent further damage.

Get medical help immediately if you have any of these signs or an allergic reaction while using Sporanox. The most common side effects of Sporanox may include the following:
• Dizziness;
• Headache;
• Rash;
• Swelling;
• Tiredness

Contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects, including:
• Blurred vision;
• Confusion;
• Fast heartbeats;
• Signs of liver problems such as nausea, upper stomach pain, tiredness, appetite loss

Sporanox can harm an unborn baby. Use effective birth control to prevent pregnancy while using the drug and for at least 2 months after your last dose. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. Itraconazole passes into breast milk and it may affect a nursing infant. Use this medicine exactly as your doctor prescribes. Sporanox is a capsule. Take this drug with food. Swallow the capsule whole. Do not crush, chew, or break it. For the oral solution, take it on an empty stomach at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Measure the liquid medicine with a dosing syringe. Do not use a kitchen spoon. Swish the liquid in your mouth for several seconds before you swallow it. Do not use Sporanox capsules in place of Itraconazole oral solution if your doctor does not prescribe it. Do not stop using this medicine without talking to your doctor, even if your symptoms improve. Stopping the medication too early may result in a recurrence of the infection. Itraconazole is only used to treat fungal infections. It will not work for viral infections like the flu or the common cold. Avoid driving or hazardous activity until you know how the medicine affects you. Store at room temperature, away from moisture and light. Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
