Revatio (Sildenafil Citrate) is used for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension and improve the capacity to exercise in both men and women. Sildenafil belongs the class of medications called phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors. This medication brings down lung blood pressure by widening the blood vessels. It relaxes the muscles of the blood vessels and increases blood flow to particular areas of the body. Sildenafil used under the name of Viagra is used to treat erectile dysfunction in men. Revatio is available in the dosage of 20 mg, three times a day to alleviate symptoms of PAH but Viagra is given at a higher dose as needed to treat ED.
The common side effects of Sildenafil may include dizziness, flushing, headache, lightheadedness, nosebleeds, stomach upset and trouble sleeping. There may be vision changes such as blurred vision, increased sensitivity to light or trouble telling blue and green colors. Revatio may make you dizzy or cause vision problems. Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or breast-feeding. Do not take Viagra while you are taking Revatio.
