Usage

Atrovent (Ipratropium Bromide) is a prescription medication that is used to prevent bronchospasm, narrowing airways in the lungs in people with bronchitis, emphysema or COPD. Ipratropium is a bronchodilator that relaxes muscles in the airways and increases air flow to the lungs. Ipratropium belongs to the family of medications called anticholinergics. This medication works by relaxing the airway, make them open up, thus, reducing respiratory symptoms such as shortness of breath and wheezing. Atrovent is not a rescue medicine and should not be used to treat sudden breathing problems. This medication must be used regularly to be effective.

Side Effects and Precautions

The possible side effects of Atrovent may include constipation, dizziness, dry mouth, nausea and upset stomach. Check with your doctor as soon as possible if you experience severe side effects such as:

• An enlarged prostate;
• Bladder obstruction or other urination problems;

This medication may make you dizzy or cause blurred vision. You should not drive, use machinery or do any activity that requires you to be alert.
