Asacol FAQs
How long does it take for Asacol to work?
Symptoms should improve within two to four weeks of starting Asacol, but it may take longer for ulcerative colitis to go into remission. Continue taking Asacol for the full six-week course unless directed by your doctor.
Can Asacol cause damage to my liver or kidneys?
Very rarely, Asacol can cause liver or kidney damage that is reversible when the drug is stopped.
Why can’t Asacol be split?
Asacol works upon contact with the cells of the lower GI tract. It has a special coating that allows it to reach the area without being broken down during digestion. Splitting the pill will destroy the protective coating.
