Cyclogest (Progesterone Vaginal Tablet) is a prescription medication used in the treatment of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), including premenstrual tension and depression, postnatal depression, and women who need extra progesterone while undergoing treatment in an assisted reproductive technology (ART) program, such as IVF (in vitro fertilization). Cyclogest contains progesterone, which is a naturally occurring female sex hormone produced in the body that is necessary for normal functioning of the reproductive system. Cyclogest works by adjusting the hormonal balance within the body, in order to treat certain symptoms typically caused by a hormonal imbalance. For use during ART, it helps to establish and maintain pregnancy. It also prevents the increase in thickness of the endometrium (lining of the uterus) caused by estrogen. Take this medication as directed by your doctor. Do not use it in larger or smaller amounts, or for longer than recommended. This medication is not for oral use. Cyclogest should be inserted vaginally or rectally. For treatment of post natal depression, the dosage is typically 200mg daily to 400mg twice a day, by vaginal or rectal insertion. For premenstrual syndrome, commence treatment on day 14 of menstrual cycle and continue treatment until onset of menstruation.
